HIDs high beam question 9005

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with HIDs in thier DRLs. I heard that they need a relay, i just wanted to make sure they wont flicker.

HID kits in general are illegal: Mandatory Viewing Before Considering HID Conversions.

HID high beams glaring uncontrolled in place of DRL's is plain dangerous on top of that. Its like driving with your high beams on all the time, but brighter than the law allows.

Not sure what the purpose would be other than irritation to those around you. Even at night HID high beams couldn't be used in rural settings, they should always be dipped to low when encountering traffic. Using HID highs in the application would result in constant on/off operation causing much much shorter lifespan.

DRL runs on reduced power, so putting HID in high beam results the bulb flickering and damaging it. Unless you disable the DRL or use a relay, you can't install HID in your high beam.

DRL and relays are separate topics.

1st, you'll need to disable the DRL.

2nd, the HID kit might have a flicker without a special heavy-duty relay kit to handle the extra current. But this flicker is not the DRL flicker. You can install an HID high beam, but HID kits tend to have a slow startup, which means you won't have a useable high beam for a few seconds. But once it does, and there is no flicker, it is mad bright!

that's because your lows aren't designed properly for HID so the light scatters up everywhere. You are basically driving with high beams on, glaring everyone.
