Yeah, I smoke.
Stupid cigarettes! Anyways, do any of you? Do you smoke in your car, and if so do you have a way to keep it clean and smell nice somehow?
I tried to not smoke in my last Corolla, lasted about 3 months lol, trying again with the new one.. so far day 5...
Specifically you should try to not smoke in it if you dont want it to smell. If you got leather seats your usually okay cause it doesnt stay too long and you can crank the heat to sort of get rid of it, if you dont got leather then you just have to really take care of it and clean it alot.
I do. Not in car though. On longer trips, I'd do a toilet break, smoke and continue on. Smoke smells stays in the car's fabrics and is impossible to eliminate. I don't smell it but it bothers non smokers especially when windows are up.
I'm sorry for all you smoker's that reply to this post.....I used to smoke when I was in HS & few years of College. First of all, just because you crack the window doesn't mean all the smoke or smell goes outside, and for one, I hate that you guys throw out your cigarette butts on our streets and litter. It's funny how you guys will smoke that crap into your lungs, but you don't want the smell or sight of the cigarette butt in your car. Secondly, since you do smoke whether its in your car or outside your work, or house....you still smell like smoke and it permeates your clothing which in turn gets into the car seat and rest of your car.
Sorry for my rant, but that's how I feel....what can I say ? you asked, I told !
Also...How the hell can you justify the price of a pack of cigarette's these days...really ???

Like most said its difficult but, not impossible. Put the window all the way down, keep your cigarette outside the window (near the mirror so your cig doesnt go out). Once your done with the cig roll all the windows down for about a mile or so. Always spray some sort of deodorizer in the car after you get out.
Obviously this will minimize the smell but not completely rid the car of it, if you smoke in your car rarely once a month or so you shouldnt have problems. Again the less the better. What hurts us more is the material they used for the seats. Leather is great and not keeping a scent this stuff in corollas, meh not so much.
Oh I smoke occasionally after DJ gigs, but rarely I've smoked once or twice in my corolla but like you cant stand the smell.
basically everything Pavin said. i smoke on occasion, and yes i have smoked in my car a few times. best way to keep the smell out of your car is to not smoke in your car. one time i did it and the smell stayed for a few days. but the other times i do it, the smell never stays cause i always have the window open all the way. my advice to you is if your going to smoke, do it outside the car, and if it comes to it, make sure you have your window rolled down then have the rest of the windows open for a few minutes after you are done. its kinda common sense with every car. you see people smoking in their cars with the windows rolled down.
however since your car is brand new, im sure you wouldnt want to get rid of that new car smell and replace it with cigarette smoke. thank god i still have the new car smell even after 32k miles
the best you can do is always have your windows down when smoking. ive noticed having only both windows on one side of the car helps air flow thru the cabin quickly. when all windows are down there's more of a turbulence effect and the smoke tends to travel thru the car longer before leaving which means its hitting more stuff on its way out. also running the climate control blower is kind of a bad idea while smoking as the cabin side intake will suck the smoke into the system and eventually smell also.
the idea to minimize odor is not having the smoke touch anything (or as little as possible)cuz cigerrete smoke is actually mostly evaporated tar and as soon as it gets cooled down it starts to become solid again. once its a solid its gets sticky & really only one thing can get rid of it and thats de-greasers.
to minimize the smell of the smoke that hangs around take a warm wet wash cloth with a mild de-greaser and wipe down your interior often. at least once a week. im talking seats, carpet, EVERYTING...
if you do this your not masking the smell like most ppl try to do with air fresheners. your actually gettin grid of what causing the smell. its impossible to get rid of 100% of the left behind tar but you can try.
as someone who smoked for over 15yrs you can tell the difference between a smoker and non smoker car. but at least your car wont be one of those that are hit you in the face obvious and stinking of old smoke.

Thanks, great info and input. I have usually always taken my cars to "detail shops" to have them quick clean, this may be the first I actually wash and clean myself.. for fun!
Coming from a non-smoker, there is no way you will ever get the smoke smell out of the car, even if you do it once with the windows down. We can tell. I replaced the interior in my Corolla eventually, which did it mostly, but if you took out interior panels, the smell was still in there. I just got used to it. But don't think you are safe smoking in your car if you ever want to sell it.

So why don't you quit? It may be hard but you will be so happy that you did. I hate the smell & I would never do that to my own lungs & body to begin with but quitting will be the best thing that you ever did.
