I own a 2009 Corolla LE. It has ~40k miles on it. It is time for me to change tires and brakes. I live on east coast (US) and need tires that can run in hot summers and cold/icy winter weather. I have no idea what kind of tires and brakes I should buy. Can you guys help me with this? I would like to buy them from PepBoys if possible. Also, I need a new air filter. If anyone know any good air filter, please make a suggestion.
Nokian WR G2 <-- this one is all season but it also have a Mountain With the snow flake inside [for winter use also]
or Michelin Harmony - I have used this on my previous cars and it's really good for summer and rain, winter was pretty good also buy not as good as the first one
What is your budget? Are you looking for 2 set of tires [1 for summer and 1 for 1 winter] or just 1 set to use all year round? If you are going to use 1 set all year round I recommend the first tire but it's bit pricey and the wear is pretty good
Air Filter I would go with OEM but if you want to spend alittle bit more money for performance, get TRD or K&N drop in filters
If you live in an area that does have a winter & deal with snow you should get a set of winter tires & wheels. They are much safer & will out perform an all-season tire in the snow by 20x easy. In the spring you could buy a set of all-seaon or summer tires. Do a search on this as there are several other threads on winter tire benefits.

I plan to buy 1 set of tires for the whole season. I don't have extra cash laying around for 2 sets...I wish I had but budget is kind of tight. looking to spend ~400 for 4 tires. I will look into the first Compared to the Nokian WR G2, what do you guys think about Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring?
As for air filter, which one is the the right one from
Now what about brakes? do I need the rotor or just pads? Not sure what I need. It doesn't make that much of squeeking sound but I need the car to stop asap when I push brakes. hehe
I am not sure for brake names or recommendations but about your rotors if it needs changing them or not, I would look at them first if it is still thick and not rusted ... if its still good, just change the pads
Any Air filter will work, pick one up from your local parts store. Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring was rated #1 on Tire Rack's survey. Check the reviews on Tire Rack for your tire size.
Have you checked how much pad material you have left? I would stick with OEM, they last the longest, ordering them from an online parts dealer or TOYOTAPARTSMANon this forum will save you some money.

That's why I said to get winter tires now & later you can get tires for the summer next spring. One accident from a lack of traction will pay for the 2nd set of tires. Think about the bigger picture. The tires are the only thing touching the ground so don't put yourself at risk since you live in snow country.

I am leaning towards the GoodYear tires as they have sale (MIR). I will check out the filter soon and see how much it costs in local store.
As for tires, I mean the whole YEAR. Sorry about that. tbh, $400 for a one set of tires + $400 for another set of tires + installation fees every few months...I am looking for a good middle ground. I am sure these tire companies have thought about people like me when they made their tires. I can't see my self spending ~1k/year (1st year) if I can get away with a good all-year-round tires.
I have to check my brakes.
Thanks for your help guys. If anyone has any more suggestions please add them.

Well good luck. The tires companies do think about it but all-season tires are not really designed for areas with heavier snow like your location. All-season tires are great for areas that receive a little snow here & there but only a very small amount. When living in a cold area that the temps are below 45F all-season tires are no match for winter tires. The best idea is to get a 2nd set of wheels for the winter tires, that way you don't have installation fees twice a year either. Even used steelies work great & can be bought on CL for very little. Heck I have a used set on CL now.

For air filter, you might want to check TN's for sale section. I've seen (and myself listed) an air filter previously, save you some money and get a good aftermarket one.

^^ Its best to go this route. The all season might only be good for one season of light snow. Keep in mind thread wear, which degrades the all season capability.
