Canada Winter Parking

I'm planning on using the echo as DD this coming winter instead of the Corolla. Corolla will be parked outside the garage. I have few questions:

1. Do I have to do oil/fluid change after 2-3 months of parking the Corolla? (Maintenance Service will be done prior to long parking)

2. Do I need to drive/start the Corolla at least once a week?

Sorry, I can't find a thread that is related to my post.

Thank you!

1. Yes, maintenance is done not just on a factor of mileage, but also on a factor of miles.

2. The battery may discharge, so you either want to unhook it completely, or start it up atleast once a week and drive it around.

Also, once out of the pump, gas tends to degrade as in it starts to lose its detergents, and octane. I would drive the car close to empty before parking it and when you start using it again, use your echo to go grab yourself a new tank of gas.

If you want to leave your battery plugged in, I would start ever 2 weeks and let it idle for 15 mins or so until it reaches normal operation temperatures. Make sure you rev the engine a couple times to push out the condensation out of the exhaust that it build up.

If you don't want to start drive the car before empty and take out the negative connector off the battery and set it to a side until you start up again. Letting you car sit for 5 months is okay.

or if you if park it and don't want to unplug your battery and not start it. Have a char charger and plug it in once a week or every 2 weeks for a couple hours to maintain the battery at a full charge. The charger looks like this ....

Just throw some fuel stabilizer in the tank and buy a battery tender....leave it hooked up all winter and you'll be fine.

What brand and spec of bat tender do I have to buy?

Is this available at Canadian Tire?

Thanks!

Just do with your Corolla as I do my MR2. I leave a trickle charger on the battery & I drive it on a nicer dry day. We always get a nice day here & there so I take it out & drive it for 15-30 miles or more. This is much better than letting it idle as it gets the oil up to temp which is very important. Your Corolla will thank you next spring even if you don't use it every day during the winter. A little attention every so often is all she needs.

when storing my other car, I too leave a trickle charger connected to it.

if I don't plan on driving it, I will throw in a box of baking soda and a box of moth balls. the baking soda well help neutralize smells, just incase I missed a spot when I cleaned it and the moth balls in hopes of keeping the critters away.

I also put the car up on jackstands to keep the weight off the tires. when I park my car for the winter, it stays parked, meaning it won't move. if I do take it out, it also means its gonna get washed when it comes back since leaving a car covered with salt sitting all winter is just asking for trouble.

There's also one that's on sale at CT right now this week, but check out the reviews first before buying.

Looking at the features/specs. it looks pretty good. I think this is a good basic use for maintaining the battery and charger too if ever in need when at home for a quick boost if battery dies at home.

I have the same name [MotoMaster Eliminator] for a portable boaster when I drive long distance. I've had it for 2 years and I've used it a couple times to help someone who was stranded at a shopping mall and it worked so far good name for me.

I would avoid it if it got that many bad reviews.

This one on the other hands looks like a good buy.

You really just need a trickle charger to maintain whatever charge is currently in the battery.
