A one month (approx) owner. Favorites - high mpg and reasonably smooth ride.
My gripes (having owned a 98 Integra Coupe before) are:
To me the middle pillar is too think and comes too much in the way of a quick blind spot check. Never felt so in any other car.
The other thing is the short visor that does no good when the Sun hits your left side.
The hand rest(s) for either hand, cannot get a comfortable position with the hand resting on something.
I have mentioned this before - seating position/comfort seems a bit miss to me.
Slightly scratchy radio reception (does not bother me though). So so audio quality (4 speaker stock).
320miles per tank is a vast improvement when coming from a 16mpg fullsize pickup truck, but a Jetta 2.0T (and many others) would be more fun to drive and better mpg. Overall satisfied for now with the 'Rolla, but it is not my final car that I will have the rest of my life. Definitely an economical, affordable stepping stone.
I traded my brand new 2012 Ford Focus for my Corolla because the Focus was such a giant piece of s**t that I couldn't stand to even drive it anymore.
You think these are issues that you've listed?
Try a car that shudders between 35 and 40 mph because the transmission is such a piece of junk. If you slow down to a red light or stop sign and don't come to a complete stop before pushing the gas pedal again, it would shudder. Oh and then there was just the random shudder from time to time for no apparent reason. Basically half the time you are driving the car it is shuddering.
The clutches rattle when it changes gears from first to second and then from second to third.
At low speed it has no guts at all because Ford designed it to shift into the highest gear possible as quickly as possible. So you have nothing off the line to try and even keep up with the flow of traffic.
God help you if you have the MyFord touchscreen in your car. It was such a glitchy piece of crap that they basically had to take the whole thing back to square one.
Basically it was like driving around in a cheap piece of s**t and to make matters worse Ford will tell you that its all normal and there is nothing that they can do about it. And that was the Ford Regional rep, not just the guys at the dealership.
I get better mpg in my old school 4 speed automatic Corolla than I did in my fancy new 6 speed dual clutch Ford Focus garbage mobile. So count your blessings, you got a great car.

Yes, the short visor thing is sooooo dumb!! They could have made it to slide several inches to variably increase the length! This is the one thing that really gets to me -- in this constant Texas sunshine that loves to live on the driver's side! ..... don't ask!

That's how Chevy's are too in order to get better miles per gallon. The computer is program to shift to 5th when going uphill. You have to over ride it with the selector all the time, so there goes the advertised claims in MPG's.

I guess they have to reserve them for other models (higher end).. my Toyoyta highlander has the variable length visor. Probably we can find aftermarket ones on ebay...
Are you sure your focus wasn't a lemon? I drove my friends 09 coupe 5M and liked it alot.
You can visit just about any of the Focus dedicated forums and read the many complaints that owners are having about the many issues the car has. There's even videos on youtue already. Ford didn't take the time to make sure the car was right before they put it on the market. The 2009 Focus and the 2012 Focus are completely different cars. The 2012 is an all new design and its garbage.

My real complaint with this car is the laggish throttle response and somewhat sluggish tranny. Car feels like a boat sometimes at highway speeds and sometimes wanders easily from wind or road conditions and it doesn't like fast transitions. Although, it sticks pretty good at highspeeds once stabilized. A Yaris handles better than this car, also I don't get why the Yaris gets Potenzas while the Corolla get's some firestone tires.
Despite it's flaws, I am pretty happy with this car though, it's a simple reliable car that can take abuse and stay loyal.

My Corolla came with Goodyear Eagles on it. Personally I think it handles quite well and I don't have any complaints about the throttle response at all. Have you considered the TRD front and rear strut braces to improve your handling and perhaps some aftermarket wheels and tires to boot?

Funny that nothing you mentioned has been a negative to me. The visor has never been an issue & I rarely even rotate it. I just use my sunglasses & all is good. Then again, I live in the NW.

Nothing that a throttle controller, lowering springs & a few bars can't fix in a jiffy.

The throttle feels good in any other situation, but I when I try to revmatch the the downshifts a quick "blip" barely raises the rpms enough. I got the base model though and I guess that's why they put cheap tires on it, I am running on the steel wheels with the hubcaps. I was thinking about getting some trd springs thinking it might improve overall feel, but I think I am better saving my money, I just heard about that new scion fr-s...

I figured the only solution would have been a less restrictive intake and exhaust. Was not aware of throttle controller, thanks for that info, I ll have to look into that.

You're most . any time you want to say thanks for something just hit the "thanks" icon on the post you are thanking.
There is a large thread on throttle controllers. I love my Pivot & some also like the Weapon.
