Angry 1 week and a face off with a truck..

man! i had my Trix for a little over a week.. and some A-hole in a truck hit me!
OK so heres the DL...
i was driving down the street and i came to a light. i was making a left and my light turned green. well this jerk off was coming from the opposite direction and he was at the light down the road.. well he had on his breaks and then in the middle of my turn.. which he could clearly see... he gassed it!!! the 8 other cars that were around all saw him do it!
So here i am, making my left hand turn, then this TRUCK comes and speeds up and hits the front right side of my car!
and hes yelling at me! everyone else saw he was in the wrong!

now the damages...
as of rite now its $3,958 worth of damage (this is the first appraiser)... thank god for full coverage and a $500 deductible. and this is only as of rite now.. there will be a lot more... (will update as process goes along)
  • both headlights and fog lights replaced.
  • Both headlights and fog lights re-aimed.
  • the front bumper replaced
  • front, and side fenders replaced.
  • replace the hood. (also cant open hood, the hinges are bent)
  • (report says) lide mirror and doors replaced!!! (what???)

now i was hoping someone could explain this one to me... the car is drivable until i can get it into the shop. but it makes a noise... (go figure). when i pull out from a stop the front right tire slips.. and I'm not sure if thats what it is doing. but thats the sound. almost as if it wont grip the tire and spin it. almost a grinding sound. but its only when i pull out from a stop. and its not like i gas it. its even if i ease out of a stop. and it happens every time i turn from a stop. and its only the right tire.. which is where i got hit. but i checked and nothing is rubbing.
if someone could help me out with this one.. that would be awesome. id like to have some kind of idea before i take it into the shop.
THANKS!

pictures to follow tomorow!

oh no!

here's a few suggestions:

-get police and witness reports - if it's not your fault then they should cover the deductable.
-claim it's undrivable and get it into a shop pronto - sounds like there's something going on and the ins company needs to get you a rental asap. Plus if the headlights are damaged how can you drive at night?
-get in writing that the repairs are gauranteed for life and insist on only OEM parts.
-If the repairs come to more than 25% then you might be able to make a claim for loss of resale value due to carfax blemish

That sound you say from the right front could be serious? wheel bearings, axle, u-joint, drive shaft damage etc sound like you don't need to be driving it too much.

Good luck I hope it make a speedy and full recovery.

heres the thing.. i dont have a rental in my insurance... (i know i know... very stupid of me.. but im only 19 and i didnt think i could even sign for a rental untill i was 23!)

and its the only transpertation i have, so i have been driving it. i am calling the shop tomorow to see when i can take it in. i am going to Douglassville auto body shop.
and when i drive at night.. i have to have my fog lights on. (my job is 3rd shift so i have to drive at night). the lights point way down ...

and there is a police report. and it says its my fault. because i turned in front of him on a green light.

and what are OEM parts? im fairly new at all of this and i dont know much.

and i hope its not deemed totaled..

thanks for ur help!

IMO, its better to be declared totalled so that insurance will replace your car. rather than drive a repaired car as you dont know the long term effects. likwise resale value is affected

Second , OEM means original equipment manufacturer or origianl parts.. Aftermarket means, non original or replacements parts.

If your hit at the right fender or door,, he may be more at fault

but since your damage is front right/or headlight section its more like a headon...

Thats IMO only

There are no aftermarket parts for that car yet. Two months sounds right for no parts available. You have a car thats been out less than 6 months, parts are slim right now. Get used to that rental car. Hope the body shop takes care of your car.

Update!!

YAY! i am so happy! i finnaly got my car back last Saturday!
it runs great and everything seems to be in working order... but alas... i find some minor things that need to be fixed... that were WAY overlooked...
  • the hood was repainted.. well it needs to be sanded down and repainted.. there is DIRT under the fresh paint!!!!
  • the mesh around the front right foglight.. is still the same one.. its completely scratched. and it doesnt seem to fit rite.. it sticks out.. (pic below)
  • the bumber is still the same one.. its also scratched... the same one from before...
  • and they didnt align it.. the fender sticks out a little.. about a 1/4inch on the right and a 1/4 inch in on the left side.
When i called them to tell them my findings.. they said they would order the mesh and the bumper and they would sand down and repaint my hood. and fix the fenders.

So all in all.. everything is alright. im happy i have my car back. so now i can start the modding!!!

i already took off the "Toyota" and "Matrix" badge. and when they repaint my hood. im having them NOT put the front badge on.

so im currently looking into:
  • 18"s
  • better tires
  • a rear sway bar
  • tint(very soon)
  • hella dual air horn
  • a sub
  • rear spoiler
so.. alas.. here are the pictures! i went to French Creek for some pics

this is what i meant by the mesh not fitting

i hope you enjoyed them. im looking to two-tone my car silver and black... more to come..

I REALLY NEED TO GET A GOOD DIGITAL CAMERA...

Not neccessarily. If there is a gap between your loan and what the insurance covers then you are screwed. If your loan balance for the car is $18,000 and your insurance only pays you $15,000 you are responsible for the $3,000 difference. On the other hand, if you keep the car and the damage greatly affects your resale value then you are still screwed.

That's why it's important to get gaap insurance. It's rare that you make the choice of "totalling" your car, that's usually up to the insurance company.
