Attention all 2ZR-FE owners (1.8L)

Toyota has released a service bulletin regarding oil consumption for corolla and matrix models equiped with 2ZR-FE engines (new 1.8L) it says:
Under certain driving conditions some 2009 model year corolla and matrix vehicles may exhibit engine oil consumption. the engine control module logic has been modified to improve this condition.

If anyone notices that the oil level is low, there IS something wrong. so go to your local toyota dealer to have your ECU updated to stop this problem. If not your cay may end up dead on the highway. there is 1 customer with 1,400 miles on the car and it was lacking 1 quart of oil.

I just visited my Toyota Dealer, Charlotte, NC. TSB is from August 1, 2008, and it is called T-SB-0145-08.
Applicability:
2009 Toyota Corola/Matrix with 2ZR Engine, and Transmission(s): 5MT, 4AT. VDS(s)Corolla: BL40E, BU40E; VDS(s)Matrix: KU40E

Introduction:
Under certain driving conditions SOME 2009 model year Corolla and Matrix vehicles may exhibit engine oil consumption. The Engine Control Module/ECM logic has been modified to improve this condition. Use the following repair procedure to address customer concerns.

Warranty Information:
OP Code: EG8034 Description: Recalibrate ECM Engine Time: 0.6 OFP: 89661-##### T1: 11 T2: 99

Applicable Warranty:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emission Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific compaint.

Next, TSB says that ECM shold NOT be replaced as part of the repair procedure!
I did not upgrade my ECM. Dealer says that I still need to monitor car performance (only 1700 miles) and then if car needs it to do the upgrade. This TSB is for only 1.8l engines of 2009 Toyota Corolla/Matrix.
What do you think guys? Should I wait or go to another dealer and just request TSB to be done on my car?

I certainly would like to prevent any issues with my car's engine!

I just checked my oil today and it looks fine. I'm just over 5k miles and got my first oil change at 3k. So I have done 2k without any noticeable drop on the dipstick. Although I am not getting particularly accurate reading on the dipstick.

It would be nice to know under what driving conditions?

European Union It is a software update

I just came from my Toyota Dealer. I showed them TSB number and asked them to update computer of the car. They did it in 45 minutes.
It was just a software update.
Description of Labor: Oil consuption TSB 0145-08 ECM Update.

I do not think that I had any problem with oil consumption; however, I treat this update as preventive maintenance of engine's performance.
The ride of vehicle is the same after this update.

there should be no reason for them to refuse you service. they are either A holes or just lazy, a dealer can only refuse you service if YOU were the A hole from the start. but they cant just turn you away especially on service bulletins and recalls. go in and tell them you want the relash, dont bother asking them about it.

And like dchev says it only took 45 minutes. All it really is, is plugging the toyota computer into your car and updating your car's ECU, it requires no man strength for 45 minutes. I can't believe some dealers would do this.
