2.4L oil?

Hey everyone. About to do my first oil change on my 09 Matrix XR. Problem is, very few companies make 0W20 oil. I actually called royal purple, and the tech, which was very rude mind you, told me that had absolutely no plans on making 0W20 oil. Well I always used Royal Purple and I know their stuff is good. Would it really be a big deal if I were to just use 5W20 oil? what would the advantages or disadvantages be?

Thanks in advance,

Josh

it doesnt matter if its 5w-20 or 0w-20 the oil cap gives you the option of either one. toyota does have 0w-20 oil for sale in the parts department. this oil is toyota made...or so the label says. the only difference to my knowledge is the 5w-20 will give you worse mpg but i'm not talking about 10mpg worse its probably barely noticeable but it is fine to use 5w-20 or 0-w20 in fact you can use 5w-30 if you like but again the mpg will drop. by how much? i cant say that is something you'll have to find out on your own (if you choose to). I do not recommend you use 5w-30 though, even though you can the new 2azfe engine that calls for 0w or 5w has different parts to work with that kind of oil. so better not think about 5w-30 at all unless you have no other choice.

And if anyone is wondering, no it doesnt matter if its a manual or automatic, the transmission has zero effect on what was used to put the engine together.

Castrol and Mobil both have 0w20 at wally world. Only slight differenc is gonna be a bit better viscosity on start up but at running temps it's gonna be the same. Synthetic or Dino 5w20 will be fine if you ask me at 5k OCI. A good forum for Oil is BITOG Bob is the oil guy forum....

Thanks guys for the reply. I heard a lot of bad stuff about Mobil 1, but I think I might give it a try. I cant remember where I think it was on 6thgenaccord.com they said something about their standards have dropped alot since they became so big, and their oil doesn't offer the protection it used to. I change it at 5000KM intervals anyways apposed to the 8000KM Toyota recommends. So I think I'm fine either way. Now to find 0W20 oil somewhere in stock is another question...
