Hey, thanks for the quick response. My local tuneup shop also had the same response. Again, many thanks.
I just ignore the light. I dont like these systems, when I worked at GM we had them comming in left and right for problems with the light staying on. Just check your pressures every week. I dont understand why they dont tell you how much pressure is in the tires somewhere in the dash...even GM had that on most of their cars with TPMS.
well this is hilarious about the sensor thing because i ended up at SimplyTire.com and i saw the sensor light come on and now i'm getting quotes for that too.
I didn't ask my dealer to move the TPMS sensors out of the 17" mags.
The dealer asked me if I wanted a new set of sensors, (80$/sensor). I said probably next winter since I won't have to pay for a new set of wheels and tires this time. He told me the sensors will probably be cheaper by next year since it will be a more common piece now that TPMS are mandatory.
It took a day and a half for the TPMS light to go on after I stored my mags.
He also told me that 153$/tire price I was told back in August for 16" Gislaved NordFrost 5's was an error (even though that was close to the price I saw at other tire shops), the "right" price ended up to be 102$/tire. And that's in canadian dollars. I think I got a deal.

Don't forget the dealers rape you to program the sensors so if you do decide to go that route next year plan on another couple of hundred dollars/per year just to reprogram each spring and fall.
I was thinking of going to Costco for 16 inch rims with Michelin Alpin Pa3 or X-Ice to keep the cost down. I was wondering if the tpms are the same universal model for every Toyota from past to present in order to keep the manufacturer's cost down. I know that I would get my wallet raped from the dealers every time I have to get my tires changed. But if there is an aftermarket that is identical to the ones that Toyota is using. I would gladly buy it at a lesser price than the ones being sold at any tire/car dealership. If it is the same, which aftermarket shops in Canada (close to Edmonton) would carry it?
I got a set of 16" steel rims and a set of Hankook w409 205/55/R16 winter tires at $740 all inclusive. I am not gonna put the TPMS sensors, just let the light on for the winter.
15 Inch Steelies from 2007 Corolla on 2009 Base Matrix?
I found a set of (4) 15 inch steel wheels from a 2007 Corolla (5x100) with low mileage Blizzaks mounted and balanaced for a steal on craigslist. I went on to put them on and it seemed like they just barely grazed the brake calipers (on a 2009 Base Matrix, 1.8L Auto). I drove it around the block and could hear a squeal about every second (every revolution of the wheels I presume) that went away with slight pressure on the brakes. What to do!?! I've been considering wheel spacers but the idea scares me. Besides, I'd only really feel comfortable with hubcentric ones which would pretty much cost as much as I'm saving. The other option is to try to find some 2009 corolla 15 inch steelies to mount these blizzaks to, but I'm scared I might run into the same problem. Has anyone run 15 inch steel wheels on a base matrix and which wheels were they (corolla? which year?) where did you find them?
I wouldn't run 15 Inch rims, because I looked at Toyota Canada's Website and the smallest rim that it could fit is a 16 Inch due to the standard brakes and rotors on the 09 Matrix. I have 17 inch aluminum rims when I took the AWD XR option package and the largest is 18 on the XRS 2 wheel Drive. I would recommend just the 16 to 17 Inch rims. I'm going for the 16 inches to keep cost down, you can go on line to any car parts dealer try to match your make and year and it narrow down what you can install on the matrix. I would sell those 15 inches to someone owns a Corrola previous generation.
2009 Corolla 15" wheels will fit perfectly for you if you have a 1.8L Matrix. The suspension and brakes on the 1.8L Matrix is the same as the 2009 Corolla.
2.4L Matrix models have a different bolt pattern and larger brakes, 16" is the smallest you can go on those models.
Base Matrix has rear disc brakes, Corolla doesn't.
If 15" fits perfectly why is sny987 getting squealing? It was somehwere else on MO.com that 15" don't fit on a 09 Matrix.....Just trying to get to the botom of this.
So what I gather from that Jeff is only 10th gen Corolla 15" rims will fit an 09 base Matrix, or others with the correct offset, as the previous gen Corolla has a different backspacing to the 10th gen.
Does that also mean a 9th gen rolla 15 will NOT fit a 10th gen rolla either?
