Odometer light came on will not turn off

OK so yesterday I went for my 2nd oil change on my XR, today I start the car after about 5 minutes the Odometer light signal comes on ans says for me to press it, I do press it but nothing happens aside from resetting the trip meter, I turn off the car pull the keys out and the Odometer light still stay's on will not turn off, anyone know why this is happening ?
