Question Gas Cap / Check Engine Light

Ok, it was bound to happen someday. After filling up the tank earlier this week I did not get the gas cap on firmly (with one click). The check engine light came on within minutes. I suspected the gas cap was not on correctly and is was loose. I now have ensured the gas cap is on correctly and over the past three days driven about 100 miles with engine on and off multiple times. How do I get this light to go off? I know it is not a legitimate problem -- just was due to a loose gas cap. I have tried removing the EFI fuses for 5 minutes (have not disconnected the battery yet) and that did not work. I even tried the reset for the oil maintenance and tpms and that did not work. Any have this happen on their 09 Trix? I did not overfill the tank and it would be a great coincidence if it is something else when I immediately found the gas cap loose. I am going to go back and fill up the tank again tomorrow and see if that helps. I have read this is some type of vacuum issue when the cap is not on right. Thanks!

Should at least pull the code, just in case something else causing is causing the light to come on. Take it to a dealer.

I guess but it would be a huge coincedence, don't you think, since it happened right after I left putting in gas, the cap was loose, and there is a note on the filler door that the check engine light will come on if the gas cap is not put on tightly... I only have 8K miles on it -- would any dealer visit be warranty?

Usually it takes more than a few minutes for the light to come on if it is indeed to gas cap was loose. There are some criteria that has to be met before the ECM will run those tests. So for the light to come on so soon, it is questionable if the gas cap is indeed the cause.

Hard to say, some dealer won't charge you if it is indeed the gas cap but some dealer would.
