Got my 1 year old 09 Matrix 1.8 two weeks ago. Second tank of gas, I got 568 km from fill to warning light coming on. Did some math with my metric convertor calculator. Got 7.3 L per 100 km or 38.6 miles to Imp.Gal. A lot of that was town driving, maybe 40%. I am not an aggressive driver and I don't speed. Does this sound about right.
I recommend that you continue to track your mileage... and if you're not getting what you think you should be - let Toyota know. It won't get you anywhere but...
I've got an 09 Matrix XR (2.4L) and I've been getting about 350 kms (max 400) on a tank. Toyota advertizes the car to be fuel efficient but in all reality, it doesn't get what the posted rate . I'm not an agressive driver so there's no reason why the numbers should be so off. I've had Toyota check the car out and have been dealing with them about this issue since November 08 (bought car in October 08). They keep telling me that they're developing a new tool to track the fuel consumption... but it was supposed to be provided to the Dealers in Feb 09. It's still not out yet...
I just drove 550km in my 2009 'Trix (Base, 5Spd) and averaged a 40.25mpg(Imp) or 33.5mpg(US). My driving was mostly lax, +/- 5 km/h of the posted speed limit, unless passing camper or transport trucks. And it was 90% highway, 10% city.
It's not the 46mpg(Imp) posted by Toyota, though my car's only got 8000+km on the odometer.

Just did another mileage check. Did this one over the last 2754 kl. for a real test of my usual highway/city driving. Obviously more highway than city.
Got 42.8 miles per Imp. gal. Drive the 09 1.8 auto. Real happy!
I average 8.5L/100km with city and highway, I would say about 80% city. When all highway I have got as good as 7.4L/100km. If you go by how many KM's to a tank it's about 400-450 City and 500-525 highway. I drive my car pretty spiritedly so I guess I shouldn't complain. I thought the numbers would be slightly better though. It's an XR with a 5speed manual.
I have a 2010 Matrix with 2.4 L and am only getting 240 km's off a tank of gas...is this not absurd??? Can't see a leak and Toyota said they won't look at it if the engine light isn't on. I'm getting 1/2 the mileage froma tank that I am supposed to. Any thoughts?

Are you an auto or manual? AWD? Either way that is way to low. By a tank of gas do you mean from full until the gas light is on? Next time you fill up, reset your trip computer, so when you go to fill up again you will be able to calculate your L/100KM. All you do is take the amount of liters it takes to fill your tank, divide that by the amount of kilometers you have driven, and times it by 100. This will give you a better understanding of what your getting. I usually fill up when I am around 300KM's, and that is usually a little under half. I average 9-10L/100km's in all city driving with winter gas.
I noted the mileage last time I filled and will calculate it when I fill again. I have front wheel drive and it is automatic but it's still too low. I am just under half a tank and have only travelled 128 km's since last fill up. No sign of a leak....it makes no sense.
Tracked my mileage and it worked out to be 20.4L/100km's. No leak and the gauge isn't moving when we're not running the car so noone is stealing our gas or anything. This is absolutely crazy, a bus is more fuel efficient. Any ideas on what can cause this or did I get a lemon?
