USA 2009 Matrix Road Noise

Have new 2009 Matrix with 900 miles on it- had it for 6 weeks. On asphalt highway road noise is tolerable. The problem is when I get on the interstate with concrete paving. At about 50 mph there is a piercing high pitched sound that starts. When I put it in neutral at this speed it does not change. It seems to be worse on concrete where they have cut grooves to dissipate water from the road. The high frequency sound gets louder as you increase the speed up to the legal limit of 70 mph. The noise is so piercing that it drives me nuts. Driving on the interstate in Minnesota actually stopped and put in some ear plugs. Want to drive it to Florida from Wisconsin but don't know if I can stand it.

Like other aspects of the Matrix and the way it drives. Only problem I have is the road noise. Talked to a guy in the mall parking lot with the same car and he is noticing the same problem.

Have heard people say it might be the tires or the fact that the Matrix is not well insulated. Have seen the posting for using Dynamat. Does anyone have any before and after results of this. It is very expensive just to try.

Any suggestions as to how to solve this problem will be appreciated.

P.S. It is a 1.8 automatic

I've heard ppl getting a decent new set of tires can help. You can get low noise ones or search around. The stock tires I got are tolerable, I've never noticed a high pitch noise like you describe.

I bought a set of Michelin tires (2) for the front tires... Did not improve any.

I installed the B-quite Matt in the back of hatch area. Nadda...

Put the b-quite stuff in one wheel well (driver side) nadda...

Im going to do the doors next... The noise is SO bad, I dont think it will help.
