HELP! air outlet selection dial won't turn

My 09 matrix runs great except recently the air outlet selection dial can't be turned all the way clockwise to defrost ... It can only be turned half-way. It didn't have this problem before.

Any idea what's going on? Thanks.

are you talking about one of those a/c control thing on the left? like air going to feet, feet + head, head, etc.. ?

if so maybe the gear to turn it may be off or broken? or the cable that it controls.

you could start tearing it apart yourself but why would you when it has a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty? Needs to be fixed by the dealer IMO.

Maybe something is jammed in a duct or who knows what could have happened.

Do you mean my Matrix comes with 3-yr bumper-to-bumper warranty? I didn't buy any extended warranty. I think the best chance is to take it to the dealer. BTW, i am a bit disappointed about the quality of that part -- I always turn it gently and can't imagine how a simple mechanical gear could screw up.

are the pictures on the dial and setting correct? like if you put it on the far left one is it really doing that job? maybe it's off.

i took apart mine a week ago just to stuff some paper inside so it wont be as bright. and distracting. now it's somewhat dim. lol. idk.

and when i put it back together, the gears were off a bit on the cold-hot part. so i had to take it apart and put the dial in right position

the positions are right, but the dial can't be turned to the defrost side. stuck somewhere in the middle.

hmm. i say either take it to shop or take it apart and look at it.. make sure all the cables connecting it and stuff are intact.
