Regarding the two options, I would go with the first option since the wider rim will allow the tire to seat and stretch nicely over the rim with full support for tire walls. There should be no tirewall "bulging" on the sides, which could result in tire rolling over itself and really make the car feel squishy.
Anyway, the original poster's tire will be a lot taller with 245/45 since he is making the tire wall height taller (45% of the width, which is 245 mm vs 45% of the width in OEM as 215 mm).
I would strongly advice against it. Here is a nice tool that allows you to compare two tire sizes and gives a very accurate dimension comparison:
