Dealer installed Bluetooth, need to change the factory stereo.

I had Toyota install their Bluetooth in my '09 Matrix. It has a separate control pad that is "stuck" on the dash just under the deck and a wire running inside to the back. My question is this.
The way it works is that if any calls are incoming the music/deck will automatically mute and I can then answer the incoming call. Cool. I'm wanting to change the deck, since it's just not good enough and I was going to upgrade to a Double Din with DVD and such. I was asked if I have a 'data module' in there that handles data between the deck/steering controls etc. I don't have a clue.
I don't have the 6 JBL system, just he 6 speaker system without the Nav. Does anyone know what this data module is? When I install the 3rd party DVD DD deck can't I still control my iPOD and such from the steering wheel?
I spent $500 on putting in the Toyota Bluetooth and it would be a bloody shame to have to go to a different Bluetooth unit just because I can't operate my car steering controls and such.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Here's a TSB posted in the Highlander forum that is also viable for your Matrix. Does that help with your steering wheel volume control issue at all?

Canada

Thanks "traildust" but it doesn't help at all.
I don't have the steering controls for Bluetooth, just the stereo controls. I have the 6 speaker system without the JBL and without the Nav.
I don't think there is a data module so I'm hoping that the Bluetooth just plugs into the new DD deck that I choose.
I would hate to pay another $200 bucks for a data module interface plus more than likely end up not even being able to use the Toyota Bluetooth.
The Bluetooth has worked with problems so far.

Thanks anyways. I'm going to talk with Toyota tomorrow and hopefully somebody will know.
