Canada Touring Package Side Mirror Question?

Hello all. This appears to be a great forum for Toyota owners. I am a first time Toyota owner and have a new 2010 Matrix.
The car has the Touring Package which I think is great. The only thing I wish Toyota would have included with the body color handles is the side mirror covers.
I would like to know if anyone on here has removed them to paint them.
Is this a difficult process? I have the paint already. Just need to get the covers off.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Canada Touring/base side mirrors cover

I have the same model like yours, Matrix Touring package, just only here in Canada! Anyway, those side mirror covers are made of ABS plastic and it's easy to detach. There's about three claws on the top and two bigger claw in the bottom part. To remove that, just pry it with your little bit longer finger nail starting from the top until you heard a click and then after prying the top part, just push it up from the bottom and then pull right away. I took a picture of it, I will upload it as soo as I find it out.
It took less than 10 secs.

Thank you revredline for your reply. I look forward to seeing that pic when you find it. I will give that a try. Did you paint yours? Or did you replace them with factory painted units?

Thumbs up

Got them off with ease. I was surprised how easy!! I used some 400 grit sandpaper to scuff them up and found some plasti-cote touch up spray. The touch up spray is an Acrylic Lacquer and hardens quickly. The Super White II is a perfect match to my Alpine White(040).

They look great. I just need to buff them and wax.

Please send me your Trix photo, Mine is Nautical blue, the body shop has
refused to paint the side mirrors cap due to different plastic material, paints wont stick and it will peel off in the future. The original plastic cover are $63.00 each, i.e. from Xr model.
