can I get bigger(diam)tires?

So, my 2009 Matrix S has 215/45r17s. Stock tires from dealer. Can I throw a set of 215/50r17s on there? Anybody try this? will they fit and not rub?

Just a question......why do you want a bigger diameter? Is that size cheaper?
Anyway, in terms of the speed on your odometer, you can generally keep the diameter within 3% of the original size and be okay. I'm not saying whether it will rub or not, there are calculators out there for the diameter percentage change.

Bigger diameter will result in somewhat slower acceleration and decreased fuel economy. Small changes make noticeable differences in economy on 4 cylinder vehicles.

Becuase Toyota won't recalibrate my speed/odometer is why I want bigger tires. It is off by 4 percent so I figure screw em, I'll change it myself with bigger tires. Unless you guys know a better way to re-program the computer.

The fact that it is off is a fact of life.....my 2011 Camry SE with the 17's is off by 2 mph. 2 mph is peanuts. My previous car was off by 3 mph. Hell, I had an 89 Mustang that was off by 12 mph (no one changed the speedo cable), but I knew where it sat and just calculated it. Everyone's car is off by a little bit, it's not gonna be perfect.

IMO, I wouldn't worry much about it.

That sounds like your tires are the same diameter 17". The only difference is the side wall profile.
