Blower fan - erratic & intermittent

Matrix owners experiencing same problem?...
08 Pontiac Vibe, 48 K miles. Problem started about 3-4 months ago. With A/C on, motor cuts out and in intermittently. Needed a whack or two with a handy umbrella or something, and then it would continue on, then off, then on again with road bumps. Was okay for couple months. Acting up same way again, but now won't come on with just simple bumps -- I need to have glove box out and wrestle/muscle the black wiring harness around. Motor will run at all speeds (so not the problem I've been reading about on Vibe forum with the resistor???). However, if it's running at '3' (medium) and I move the speed control to '4' or 'high' it will cut out again. Brushes?... or wiring connector? Frustrating as this car has been on the road (only) 36 months, 48 K miles, yes this is central Fla and A/C gets used everyday, still shouldn't have to be replacing a blower fan this early. thanks, mike

Maybe check your blower motor resistor. That's what helps control the fan speed and if it's on the fritz it will make your fan speed on the fritz.

My old 98 Pontiac Sunfire's went out at 149k and when it went out so did the bottom 3 speeds. The blower motor bypasses the resistor at full speed, and that's why I only had the highest setting.

Thanks Obsession. In my case was easy--not the motor, not the resistor. Undid the connector, did some scraping w/ my smallest file, crimped a bit w/ a needle-nose (without cracking the outer plastic), and that's all that was needed. (fan ran at all speeds, so knew already it wasn't that resistor issue that has been talked about here and on Vibe forum).
