It's normal. I have an 09 2.4L manual, and I am lucky to get 400km, maybe 415kms. Winter defiantly made it worse.

What are you getting per 100kms? Next time you fill up, just take the amount of liters it took, divide it by the kilometers driven and times that number by 100 for L/100kms. This will give you a better idea of your actual gas mileage, as sometimes when I think Ive gotten horrible mileage judging by the fuel gauge, turned out to not be as bad as I though.

For you car, it is rated at:

City: 9.8
Highway: 7.0
Combined: 8.5

Hope this helps.

I'll give that a try, thanks for your detailed reply. For a Toyota matrix, I thought I would get at least 500 km's.

No worries! Getting the actual mileage gives you a much better perception on how your vehicle is operating efficiently. The problem with the 2AZ motor is that it is an older design, and is not very efficient. It is just a Camry motor. The 1.8L get really good fuel mileage, but you sacrifice some power and torque. The 2AZ has really good torque for a 4cyl, but you gotta pay to play!!

Come summertime, when they remove the additives in the gas and it warms up some, you should see a noticeable increase in your gas mileage. I have gotten over 500kms in the summer with my 2.4, but it was mostly highway. Once you start recording your mileage too, it gets addicting!! I've been recording mine now for 2 years, and I have not missed one fill up!

I've only had my car a few weeks so we have been monitoring this closely.

I have a 2011 XRS so the 2.4L engine and I am getting about 380-400km to the light and I have about 7.5L left when I fill up so that is like 8.95-9.4km/L and I do mostly city driving. The ratings seem pretty accurate to me.

I just gave my husband back his V8 Tundra when we bought this car and I'm happy to no longer be paying $130 a week in gas!!! :S

Thats really good mileage for the 2.4. It's better than what its rated at. Are you an auto or manual?
