Best place to mount a backup camera?

I think the "best" place to mount a backup camera would probably be on either side of the license plate next to the license plate lights. Has anyone tried any other locations?

Also looking for recommendations for a good back-to-front path inside the car for routing the wiring for a backup camera. I could route them along underneath the car but trying to avoid needing a lift or jackstanding the car if possible. In the end, going underneath might end up taking the least amount of time/work.

When I installed a backup camera on my Tacoma it was pretty easy since the truck is already so high off the ground. Plus there was a conveniently located grommet on the passenger side that I was able to pass the wires through to bring them back into the cab.

have you considered the wireless ones? you grab power from the hatch but no wires need to be run to the front of the car...

Thanks, but I'm also getting ready to install a double-DIN head unit that has a backup camera input. I'd like to be able to use that head unit's display for the camera.
