Just got my Matrix today! Need help with a few issues though.

Hey all!

So I purchased a 2009 Matrix S FWD manual 37,000 miles yesturday. I'm very impressed so far. I bought from a used car lot. They didn't have the owner's manual, remotes, or floor mats. Before I signed for it I asked for these things. They agreed to get an owner's manual for me and a set of 4 matrix floor mats, but they wouldn't get the remote for keyless entry. So all I have is one key.

My questions;

1. Other than going to a Toyota dealership to hook me up with remote entry what other options are there?

2. The red security light flashes while I'm driving and is annoying. Will this go away if I get a remote entry system all set up?

3. Cargo net. Did this car come with a toyota net?

This is my first post. I'm glad to see such a vibrant toyota community on this site!

Thanks,

1. The key is chipped, so you will need to secure another key that is compatible for it. I'm surprised that Toyota dealership could not help you with this. I'd try another dealer or contact the BBB and see if this will "effect" a fix from your dealership. On my 2009 Matrix XRS - the remote and key were one unit - though that might have been a package deal.

2. Light should stop blinking once you use the key fob. But something sounds a bit off, the car shouldn't even be able to start without a chipped key - the light indicates that the key was accepted and the car can startup. I'd press on the dealership to see if they will work with you on the remotes.

3. No cargo net. Mine came with both the adjustable straps (to secure the full size tire in the event of a flat) and a collapsible fabric privacy deck hoop to cover the cargo area, but no net. D-rings are installed in the cargo area, but the netting was part of an option package.

I got the car from a local used car lot, not a Toyota dealership so I was buying the car "as is". The key I have has a big plastic piece at the end of it and it says, "STRATTEC". So I don't know if it is chipped or not.

OK, got it now - got it from a local lot, sold as is.

STRATTEC is a big OEM for locks and keys, so I would not be surprised that it was chipped internally and the RFID chips inside can be very small - not much bigger than the plastic piece on normal keys.

2. Security system red LED bulb should not be blinking while driving the car. It actually is tied with the electrical immobilizer, which is disarmed when the key is inserted and the transponder in the key is read by the ECU in the car.

I'd be asking why they don't have to original keys to the car. All matrix came with 2 sets of keys that had the key fob built right in. It sounds like there is an immobilizer bypass put into the car so you can drive it without the original keys.

The immobilizer security light can blink while the car is started and running. (if that's the LED OP is talking about)
If it's blinking like blink blink pause, blink blink pause, then it's in open conformation mode.
It needs closing. And to do this, simply insert the immobilizer key and cycle 'off to on' ending in off, 5 times within 10 seconds without starting. Try to do it smoothly.
This is a classic case with used car lots. Lots of business from them.
