I have successfully used my Motive Power Bleeder on my VW and Ford vehicles, and ordered the 1101 Round Universal Adapter from Motive for use on my 2010 Toyota Matrix S. Aside from archived forum comments stating that the universal adapter is difficult to seal against the brake fluid reservoir, I have more general issues.
I have removed the Matrix plastic service cover and rubber cap, but there is not enough clearance to attach the adapter to the reservoir. The Motive cone spacer will fit on the resevoir with a quarter inch or so of clearance, but there is not enough room for the hard plastic cap and its tabs for the J-bolts. It would appear that the adapter would fit OK if the rest of the shield that the service cover is attached to were also removed. It looks like to do this I would have to at least remove the windshield wiper arms and undo several snap fasteners.
What are my options for using the Motive bleeder?
- Remove entire shield (pain in the butt)
- Exchange 3+ inch adapter 1101 for 2 inch adapter 1126 (barely big enough)
- DIY adapter from OEM cap
Comments anyone? I noted that other posts about the Motive adapter 1101 were from Pre-2009 Matrix owners. Is this a new issue for the 2009+ models?
