Canada Tire Pressure Warning Light does not come on

Had snow tires on separate rims without pressure sensors installed today. Service rep said that the tire pressure warning light will come on and stay on. However I rode car home and the warning light did not stay on after the initial engine start up. Is this a problem and a concern, or a good thing ?

dchant,

The light will not come on if the rims are stored near your car. The car will still think the rims are on until you drive approx. 15 km away from the rims with the transponders. After that point the light will start to flash for about 30 seconds, then should stay on constantly.

If the rims were stored at your dealer, then the light will probably come on first thing the next day. If you took the rims home with you, and you stored them in your garage, or near your car, the first trip of each day will not show the light until you have travelled approx. 15 to 20 km. Each subsequent trip of the day, the light will flash for the first 30 seconds or so, then stay on constantly.

Those are just general observations. There are other factors that can interfere with the transponder signal that could affect when the light will come on if the rims have been removed from the car.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for that precise explanation and solution. What you described did in fact happen. The light did come on the next day after driving home from work. I have since seen a thread on this subject but did not see the cause, only the recommendation.

Regards !
