VSC warning problems big time!

K so I am new here but wanted to come right out the chute with this dilemma I am having. I found that VSC problems seem to be a major concern with the Venza. Let me tell my story thus far...

A few weeks ago, wife was driving our venza around town and all of a sudden all these warning lights came on. 4 warning lights came on all at the same time, followed by the display saying "Check VSC System". The warning lights were the check engine light, AWD light, Red exclamation point light, and Traction control light.

We immediately took it to the dealer. We have owned this car for about 6 months and bought it brand spankin new. At the dealer, they pulled the car in and told my wife to wait in the lobby. Mechanic number 1 comes in after a few minutes and says they think they figured it out and it will only be a few minutes. A few minutes goes by and mechanic number 2 comes in. He says that they cant get the sensors to reset and must call Toyota Headquarters for advice on what to do. Service Manager then approaches my wife a little bit later and says they need to keep the car and will give us a loaner.

Service Manager goes on to explain that they actually have no idea what is wrong with the car, but that they are calling Toyota Headquarters for advice on what to do. They will have to go down a check list of things to do and just see what happens. My wife hops in the loaner and heads home.

Next day, she gets a call from this service manager. He states that they believe the problem is with the oil valves. Somehow they are faulty but they will get them fixed ASAP. Later that day they call and say come and get the car its ready to go. Upon picking it up, Mechanic tells my wife that they "swapped the oil valves" and the problem went away.

This fix seemed to last for about 2 weeks before the whole thing came back again. Im driving it to work the other morning and the same damn thing happens again. I called the service manager and said we need to bring the car back for the same exact problem. He then tries to tell me that I am ok to drive the car until they can schedule me in an appointment which will take a few days. I tell him absolutely not and I am coming to the dealer right now. He proceeds to argue with me that the car is ok and safe to drive but I insist it isnt. I tell him that last time, they blamed the error on faulty oil valves which is not a good thing. I told him if the oil valves are bad, then the motor isnt getting oil properly, thus being BAD to drive on.

He finally agrees and puts me back in a loaner. I come to find out that they didnt even replace the valves the first time but "switched them" by taking valve 1 and trading places with valve 2. So they tell me they have to order in replacement valves now. This was 6 days ago and I still dont have my car. I get the daily call from service stating that they ordered the part, but the wrong one keeps coming in. Now they are telling me it will be a few more days.

In all honesty, I dont believe they know what the problem is. How in the hell could the VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system have anything to do with oil valves?

Has anyone else had this fiasco? I need advice on what to do because I am about ready to call this sucker a lemon and try to get my money back.

Any help is much appreciated.

Is your Venza a V6 or 4 cylinder?

Canada

You need to change dealers. They can plug in to the diagnostics and get a very good idea as to what the problem is. Oil Valves????? sounds strange. I had the same problem on my tundra and the it was an electronic module. Nowadays the dealers should be falling all over you to fix your problem not lying to you or pulling shady maintenance practise of swapping parts from on side to next! BTW when one bad part(which could ruin other parts) is moved from one part of the Car/Engine it can it can create/ruin other parts that may rely on the part being replaced

You have owned the Venza for over six months, and then you finally find this forum, and ask for help.

As we are not officials in any sense, we can only relate staid knowledge.

Next time say hi before you get in trouble.

What exactly is an "oil valve", and what does it lube? Obviously they're not talking about the intake or exhaust valves in the heads...possibly a valve for VVTI and timing advance??

Also...please reply..is this a 4 or a 6...I assume if they swapped sides its a 6 ??

Anyway...common sence would say that if a part is failing then changing sides makes about as much sence as putting a flat tire on the back so it doesn't effect your steering.

(and whats up with it wont hurt keep driving)... run very fast from this dealer IMO.

WTH??? Do you really have to be so rude??

People go looking for answers when they have a problem... not before,...pretty easy for me to figure out.

It's not like they have stop in to your valuable "I washed my car thread" and check in first.

Verndog... point taken..but as stated we can only council on what we know, as we have no official capacity on Toyota service matters.

Take a chill pill my man...

And the wash my car thread was a srpingtime uplifting thing, which is wasted on a dogfaced pomp.

Good thing you changed your post because I reported it.

Quoting is another difficult to comprehend concept...it lets others know who you are speaking to. My hope is someday it will all fall into place for you.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Mine is a 6. I called and spoke with another service guy yesterday. He basically stated that the error on the display screen "check VSC system" is not actually the error that they are fixing. He said that one error in the system will trigger another and another creating a domino effect.

He went on to say that the problem was with the VVTI system. And they are currently waiting for a replacement part which again was called a oil valve.

They estimate that I will have the car back by tomorrow. I guess we will see. It just still seems strange to me that the display says one thing and the dealer says that it something else. If its the VVTI system that failed, why wouldnt the display say "check VVTI system"? Any why if the VSC system is ok, then would the AWD sensor, and traction control lights come on?

Something very fishy going on here....

I appreciate your input

thanks for the update..... the error lights just don't correlate to the VVTI system..... at least we have a data/reference point for a situation another member exoeriences the same

I thought it may be the VVTI. That will alter your engine timing and makes sence it would trigger other errors. The display output (what you see) is not very definitive. For instance...check engine could mean a gas cap is loose. As far as the TCS if the engine RPM reading doesn't match the what is calc. for wheel speed, that could be detected as wheel slippage and send out errors to those systems (possibly IMO).

Anyway, chances are you dont have 4 problems at once, 1 likely triggered others. When they download the error codes (dealer), they get a more definitive fault to look for then the error reported to the dash.

Let us know how it turns out...good luck.
