The a140E is only an automatic transmission. The A tells you it is an automatic. I don't know the manual tranny codes but I can tell you it doesn't start with A. Also the A140E will not bolt up to the 3sgte since there is no such thing as a 3sgte comming in an automatic. If you are doing a manual tranny swap and plan on putting a 3sgte in your car later I suggest either the 2nd gen V6 manual tranny(you will have to change transfer cases but it will bolt up everywhere else) or put the tranny that tailsman said the 86-89 celica GT-S manual tranny. The one from the celica is actually as easier swap beause you can keep the same axles you have. The only thing with the celica one is you have to figure out how many bolts the crank has for the flywheel because the 3sfe came with a 6 bolt and an 8 bolt and you have to get the right flywheel for that. As for the MR2 turbo tranny it will bolt up to the 3sfe since the MR2 has thh same block however this swap is a lot harder because you have to find the right axles(might even have to get custom made which is expensive), the linkages will probably have to be custom made and I believe custom mounts.
