Shifting Question......

Got a question...... [edit] ...i dropped it down into second....didnt think it would be a problem since i was only doing like 40. When i did this there was a loud like bang noise when i tried getting it up to redline and shifting around 6500rpms. So can someone please tell me what the fuck that noise was and if i messed my car up. Also wut rpms should you shift at.....when i try and shit at 6000 it doesnt pull but when i redline it it shifts wierd. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!! Thank you and sorry if this question is kinda stupid, just got the car.
