I have found a problem in the 1998 Avalon that I own and the 1999 Avalon my mother owns. Can all Avalon owners around these year models try something? When I am listening to the stereo and I turn on the rear defroster, the radio goes to static. It doesn't happen all the time. Usually when you are under some type of obstruction like a drive through window or a traffic light. It even happens in cloudy weather. My mother went to the dealership and they told her it was a defect in the back glass where the antenna and the rear defroster are located. Toyota argued about paying for it because it was "the glass" but ended up fixing it for her under her factory warranty. My car is out of warranty and the extended "platinum" warranty does not cover glass so they will not replace mine. I called Toyota and they said they would not fix it unless there was a recall. That takes a lot of owners complaining. So I want us all to check it out and make the recall happen if it is indeed a factory defect in at least 2 consecutive model years, maybe more. It just seems odd to me that both mine and my mothers cars do this and Toyota won't claim responsibility. I love my car and Toyota has been great otherwise. I will probably never own another make, but I like listening to my music and I don't need my rear defroster on sunny, clear days. On;y at the times that it makes my radio malfunction. What do you all think?
