Ok guys, this is really bugging me. My dad bought an 05 Avalon in March of 2005. Some idiot crashes into his car at approx. 100 mph and took off (unknown how, but it was a hit and run on the freeway). The car wass totaled and the insurance company paid for the car in full. Yesterday, we went to get another Avalon but 2006. I read the specs and it said 268 HP! While the 2005 version had 280 HP!!! WHY?!?!? I'm kinda mad... Does anyone know the reason? The Avalon was a G35 HP killer!... Now, it's the same! ARGH!!!

I believe 2007 all auto manufacturers will have to use the same standard for horsepower measurement. Toyota started doing it voluntarily this year. Can't wait to see who's being cheating (Nissan lol).
Since Toyota recommends premium fuel, but does not require it, the new SAE rules state that they have to post numbers achieved with regular gas. That '06 is still 280HP with premium gas, just like an '05 will produce 268HP with regular.

When an engine is designed for premium there can very well be that much of a difference between regular and premium. The same can be true for an engine designed for regular gas, although the effect is the exact opposite.

SAE HP measuring rules changed, numerous Oriental makes went down and a lot of Americans stayed the same or went up a few HP. The engines are the same, it's just a truth in advertising item. Your Avalon has the same wheel HP and engine as the deceased, just a more accurate measure. No worries, mate!
