you do not need to by pass the factory amp!!! if you use the correct harness and a deck with at least two sets of rca jacks out the back you connect these wires

yellow- constant
red- switched power
black- ground
blue/white- amp turn on
blue-power antenna (for older models that have one)

four rca's from the harness

white-front left
gray-front right
purple-right rear
green-left rear

purple and green might be backwards.. I always get them wrong

like I said in the previous post... it's only like 4 or 5 wires depending on car.... and plug in a couple of rca's... takes about 15 min.....

if the shop told you they had to buypass the amp they are wrong and in experienced..... the harness only cost about $15 and has been out for at least 8 years

I have done at least 100 of these installs

share the love, supra, what did you do to get it working?

Let me get this straight, then, what you are doing is using pre-amp output from the new HU and using the factory amp to power you speakers?

I just bypassed the amp--see the thread down a couple-- and with my 97 the base power in the pioneer sounds better than the factory amp.

What I am trying to decide now is if the previous owner messed up the positives and negatives at the speakers, or is the somewaht hollow, deep soud that I am hearing just because of the bellows behind the small 4 inch speakers in the doors. Even with the better sound, I am jonzing for some bigger rear deck speakers!

By any chance, do you have the 7 speaker system, with the woofer? If so, does your woofer work alright, then?
Thanks in advance.
