96 avalon stereo?

I own a 96 Avalon that was recently in an accident when it came back from the shop the stereo had put itself into security mode, im guessing because the cars battery had been disconnected. I called the cars previous owner to see if he had set the code when the car was new, he hadn't, in fact he had no idea that there was a code at all. So my question is this, do any of you know of some universal code that works on all the stereos? Or is there some way I can remove it from the dash and reset it?

The whole thing is rather stupid if you ask me, what's the point in disabling a stereo for further use? If it is stolen the guy isn't going put the thing back when he finds out it doesn't work. Not to mention, I doubt 96 Avalon tape decks are the hottest thing on the market right now.

Any help would be great.

Nope, there is no reset switch. The only thing you can do is note the model and serial numbers down and take it to a dealer to see if they can get the reset code. Otherwise, the unit is rendered useless.
