'06 skipping wiper blades

Hi all - newbie here, this looks like a great forum and already I've found loads of helpful information. I've had my 2006 Touring for about 2 months now, and I love everything about it, best car I've ever driven. Came from an '03 G35 which was a great car, but the Avalon excels in so many areas.

But I have a problem w/ the wiper blades. When I try to clean the windshield, the blades skip and smear the windshield, even with lots of water. They won't make a nice clean pass. I noticed that the 05/06 Avalons have that new wiper blade design where there's no rigid "backbone" on it, and it seems like that there's not enough pressure on the blades against the windshield to really scrape it clean. Does anyone else have this issue with their blades?

I had the same problem with a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Changing the blade did not help at all. I then read on another forum that the problem was the blade was not orthogonal to the windshield. After looking up that ten dollar word, I discovered that the problem was the blade was not perpendicular to the glass. I made a minor bend in the arm that holds the blade with two adjustable wrenches and problem solved – no more skipping. Hope this helps.

Thanks oilman, I'm going to give that a try and see how it works, though I cringe at the thought of bending something on my new Avalon!
