1995 Avalon - Ignition Clicking Noise

I have a 1995 Toyota Avalon with about 165k miles on it. In the last few weeks I started hearing a clicking noise behind the ignition key (in the dash), it sounds like relays going on and off. I can occasionally repeat it when I have the car in park and push the button on the shifter to move the shifter. I can also start the car by not holding down the brake as well (not sure if I was always able to do this since it was my wifes car and I am now driving it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

PS: One mechanic thought it was my A/C compressor ($1800+) but that seems to run fine and another mechanic thought it had something to do with a transmission switch.

you should be able to start the car without holding brake. what you are hearing is prob what it sounds like....a relay.. there is relay so when you turn key on, then you can push button on shifter and shift out of park. without key on, you shouldn't be able to do it. you havent indicated a problem other than hearing the relay. i know an old honda i had, the relay seemed to get louder, but still worked. not sure why....
