Cold Air Intake ?

I have read a few post talking about increase in gas mileage with a cold air intake, Cost seem to be from $120 ebay search, to a complete kit $220.

I have a 1996 with 120k miles, just curious as to others experience with CAI.

Thanks

hsakuragi speaks fact.... think about it...if you keep track of gas mileage...do you get any better mileage in the winter?? it is a fact that cooler air can build more horsepower in extreme performance situations, but in your everyday driving it does nothing.

In everyday driving, I doubt if you would notice this differance. Spend your money on a tuneup.

Gonna hijack this thread if I may. I'm avg between 18-21 miles per gal if the car display is to be trusted. Do they have chips that will help or am I SOL and just have to live with the fact that my SoCal commute is to blame and there is no way around it.

With my experience with cai, it did absolutely nothing for the mpg but added a little sound to the engine seeing how the silencers had to be removed (not on a toyota but a diff. car make).

you can't trust the car display...this is just approximate. the only way to know true mileage is to do the math when you fill up. if you are really getting only 18 to 20, probable cause is dirty injectors. a good fuel additive can help, such as BG products 44k. don't waste your money on stp or other cheap ones. i add a can at every oil change. another good cleaner is chevron techron. i've seen the mileage jump from 19 to 22-24 after treatment.
