Power locks

I've got a 97 avalon, and the door locks dont work right, it will unlock, but not lock, it does that to all the doors. I've replaced the driver side switches and that didnt solve it. the locks work when I disconnect a plug in the door ( I think it goes to the alarm ), but when I leave it un plugged, and close the door, the alarm goes off when I go to open it the door. I also got a new keyless remote, I'm assuming I cant program it until I get the door lock problem fixed.

Have you checked the door switches, especially the driver’s side? These switches can fail, the result being the power locks will not lock. Or there could be a problem in the door switch wiring, an open wire in the circuit.

Not up on this alarm system. A bad door switch or wire problem on any door will cause this problem. Some Toyota’s have a programmable setting that allows a locking/unlocking function change. Suggest you go to the Camry section and find the on-line service manual for the Camry of the same year. Look up the wiring and operational info on the automatic locks, theft deterrent system and remote lock operation. The cars are not exactly the same, but this info might be close enough to help you out.
