AC cold from center vents, warm on side vents 1999 XLS

Hey everyone,

I have a 1999 XLS, 70,000 miles.

I just recently had the AC evaporator replaced along with the dryer and expansion valve.

AC has been working great, nice and cold since the repairs.

Today, I noticed that the air from the center vents has that good cold bite to it, but the AC coming from the side vents is not as cold. It's cool, but not cold.

Used to, my fingers on my left hand would start to hurt because of the cold air blowing on them where I hold the wheel. The air out of those vents has always been as cold as the air coming out of the center dash vents.

I changed all the settings, moved the vent switches around to floor, defrost, etc. Open closed the recirculate, turned the temp control from cold to hot and back. Nothing changed.

Anybody have any ideas what this might be caused by?

Thanks for any ideas, help or previous experience of the same kind.

Jamie

My guess is the air duct or duct door system has a problem. The system has ducts and doors that direct the flow of hot, cold, vent and recirculated air into the car. The doors are controlled by either vacuum actuators or DC motors via the switches on the dash.

Given the recent evaporator work that required taking apart a lot of the heating and A/C system. The shop could have inadvertently failed to properly connect something in the ductwork. Suggest you take it back and see what they say.

Thanks for the reply.

I figure it was most likely related. Never had a problem before and then after they took all that apart, something must not have been put back securely and has worked it's way loose or disconnected, etc.

Just wanted to make sure this wasn't some kind of huge problem with the cars that I had somehow missed.

Thanks again.

Anybody wanna second Toyo's opnion?
