I am so tempted by a Mazdaspeed 6, you can really get them cheap right now. Current car is a white '99 XL with leather buckets, alarm, sunroof. I bought it at 95K, it had a new sludge replacement engine in at 62K. I have replaced the right wheel bearing, all four struts, front strut plates, rear lower suspension arms (the ones that the bushings wear out), rear sway bar bushings, catalytic converter, battery, spark plugs, plug wires, EGR and sensor. Plus I changed radiator fluid (Toyota Red), had tranny fluid completely changed. I also added Lexus 17 inch IS300 wheels, rear spoiler and I have a set of Blizzak EVO's with about 5K on them on the original rims. I have the original sticker, it was a $30K car. I replaced the gold Toyota symbol badges with chrome ones. I had the car Ming'd.
The car runs, drives, looks like new, really. I have not done a thing since I took care of all the 100K stuff. The car has 108K on it now. Everything works perfectly. The car is cosmetically a 9.0+. No door dings or crumpled metal. I changed to Mobil 1 with 5K changes. I uses no oil, no leaks or drips either. The engine compartment and undercarriage is dry as a bone.
I have driven it on 3 seperate 1200 mile round trips in the last three months. The only thing wrong that I know is the muffler seems to have a loose baffle in it and it rattles a little when cold, but that goes away quickly and it has done that since I had it, I thought it was the catalytic converter, but it was not.
I would like to get $8500, the car is really worth it.
that sounds like a real good price for all you've done. i would think it will sell quickly. put it on autotrader for best exposure. i'd like to see pics of it. my sister has a mazda 6 and really likes it, it's a great car. good luck....zoom zoom......
You said you changed the gold emblems with chrome ones. Do you still have the gold ones? If so, I would be glad to take them off your hands. I have a 97 XLS. I know you have an XL but I'm still interested.
I want to take my gold one's off and paint them gun metal or black -- how do you get em off?
Steve, my gold one's look weathered too, but if you don't go for slooper's I would trade you for em. Mine is a 97 xls. If you don't go for slooper's, pm me a email and I will send pics.
Edit: only my rear emblem's are gold-- my car got a new front end before I purchased it. So I would only be talking about the rears.

You can take the emblems off in about 10 seconds with a thin cord.
I removed any leftover adhesive with goo-gone and painted them with black pearl paint. I'd rough them up before painting as paint doesn't like to stick to the shiny chrome or gold. I got the spray paint and painted them in a box with a ball of tape stuck to the back of them. They turned out great, however I regret putting them back on as I couldn't get them to stick and they moved around messing up the adhesive behind them. If one wasn't looking they would never know, but I can tell. Best of luck.

The only emblems that have holes behind them are the Toyota symbols in the center. The rest are held in by double face foam tape. Dental floss works great for removal, heating them up with a hair drier makes it a little easier.

I guess then my biggest problem would be discoloration in my black paint from 9 years of baking in the sun. That would look sweet, though, just a silver toyota emblem in the center, nothing on the sides.
I think we officially hyjacked this thread

It's my thread, so I can hyjack it, right? When I pulled the emblems off my white car it was not an issue. One single chrome emblem in the middle looks much better, IMHO.
