My Mom has a 1995 Avalon (I drove it for 2 years...I miss that car) with 218,000 miles on it. We paid $4,400 for it 4 years ago. Since I drive it for 2 years, keep in mind that I had it redlining at 80MPH in second gear every time I pulled onto the highway.
CV Joint Boots
Left rear brake disc/caliper
Rear struts
1 Oxygen sensor
Right rear ABS sensor is now on the fritz
Thats the list of things that have gone wrong with the car. 2 other things however, the power antenna (bent while extended) and the catalytic converter needed replacement. However, the catalytic converted had a protective cover missing exposing it to new england road salt. Speaking of which, there is no indication of rust anywhere on the body, even where the hood has been chipped by rocks.
The engine and transmission still run strong. It has lost some power, but I think the engine needs to be carbon cleaned. Also, the transmission ran for roughly 30,000 miles with an almost completely clogged filter...to the point where it would skip second. After a complete fluid flush, it ran like new.
Also, with the way my mother drives, she averages 31MPG (50/50 city highway).
