Mystery knob??

I apologize if this is a dumb question. I just got a '95 Avalon from my parents. There's a knob to the left of the steering column. If I turn the knob to the left, an orange light turns on inside the dashboard followed by some beeping noises. If I turn to the right, the same thing happens except the light is green. It also has a volume control for the beeping noises. Any idea what this knob may be used for??
Thanks

Maybe....

That was my first guess, but if it is a factory installed RD....it's certainly not a very good one. Maybe I just need to play with it more.thanks for the help.

Are your parent's the original owners of the car? If so, they might be able to tell you exactly what it is. What you described sounds possible but definately not factory.
