Having an alarm problem with a '97 XLS

I own a fully loaded '97 XLS. I recently installed a Bulldog remote starter with my brother. Wiring should all be correct.

The problem is that sometimes the car feels like starting and other times it won't. Sometimes it works just fine, but then the other times, the horn starts blaring until I put the key in the door. I deduced that either the remote was programmed incorrectly. I reprogrammed it to no avail. Then I noticed the security light. So I was wondering if this is the problem.

Is there a security system in the '97 XLS (it's fully loaded, so I'd assume so)? If so, is that what's constricting the Bulldog system to work correctly? Where is the stock alarm so I can possibly disable it?

Thanks!

Not up to speed on this system. The 1997 appears to have come with a security system and remote door look operation. Does the ignition key incorporate a transponder? Transponder keys were used with the engine immobilize system.

The obvious question is did you check the owner’s manual. Thought this system could be disabled or reprogrammed. Might do a TN search on Avalon security system and how to turn them off (if this is what you want). The Camry and other cars may have had these systems as an option, so you can also check there.

According to the Bulldog Security book, it said the '98+ Avalons had transponders, so I assumed my model doesn't apply. I look into the disabling though. Thanks.

Yeah, exactly. So I have no clue what's wrong. I just need to find the OEM alarm brain.
