Question Automatic door lock problems

This probably isn't specific to Avalons, but here goes.

I have a 99 Avalon XLS and my car does should not have automatic door locking function for in gear/motion. For some reason a couple days ago, my driver door lock stopped unlocking the rest of the doors. I think there may be a short, loose connection, or maybe it's just stuck in the lock position. This is causing the car to lock itself at random.

Last night my wife woke me up at 4 AM telling me that my alarm was going off. So I go outside, unlock the car, and it turns off. Then it locks itself twice and triggers the alarm again. So as a frustrated and tired temporary solution, I just ripped out the horn fuses and went back to bed.

Any ideas on what's causing this and how I can fix it?

i had this problem in a camry once, but it turned out to be funny. it was actually the button on the remote was stuck down, causing it to seemingly lock at random....and setting off the alarm. i went through everything before finally discovering it was the button on the remote sticking down. took the remote apart and cleaned it and then no more probs.

If it is not the remote check the wiring between the drivers door and frame. This can and does fray and break, also check the door switches.

Well, I don't have a remote. So that isn't the problem. I haven't gotten motivated enough to open up the door to check the wiring yet. Right now I have the horn fuses back in. I'm just keeping the chipkey in the ignition so the anti-theft system isn't armed.

In an interesting turn of events, while I was driving yesterday it changed its mind. Now it unlocks randomly.

If no remote, suspect the wiring or a door switch. You can fool around with the switches to see if there may be a problem. I think they even pull out for testing.
