Disable the key-in-ignition chime on a 1st gen? - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

I just bought a 97, and find the overly loud key-in-ignition chime that goes off when the key is in any position to be extremely annoying. Is there anyway to disable this? I read somewhere about a 2-lead plug at the key switch for this, can I just unhook it? I haven't got into the dash yet...

Might run down the chime by sound and disconnect one wire. Not sure what else the key switch is used for.

The chime/buzzer is used for other warnings so you don't want to disconnect that.

But I did find the key-indicator harness and unplugged it. It doesn't seem to have effected anything else. Whoo!

Its a two wire harness. The wires on the keyswitch side are green and green/black. I've circled the plug in the picture below.
