Yep, this is the cure! I've been dealing with it off and on for about 5 years on my 1996. But never aggravated enough [by it] to post anything about it.

[quote=Zee;2036106]I didn't find any drain plug for the door, but merely pull the trims moulding out from the body a little and the water will drain.

my rear driver door!!

I had the same problem just recently with my driver side rear door... I got tired of hearing that water sloshing around when driving after a bad rainstorm, so I just drilled a hole on the underside of the door and stuck a rubber grommet in it. I think my weatherstripping flap on the outside at the base of the window opening became misaligned somehow, My solution to the problem was cheaper than the mechanics... I'm not complaining..water drains out slowy but faster than waiting for it to evaporate...

Spot welding of sheets in the rear is the culprit of Wheel well water Leak.

I had the same problem. What aggravated me was that I live in Toronto. during winter, the spare tire couldn't be retrived in emergency, because water frozen all in the wheel well. I waiting for the 1st winter to be over. Then I did the following.

I removed the spare wheel. Painted the wheel well edges with a white marker paint. Let them dry. Whether I watered the car or let it sit in rain I don't remember correctly. However, I found that there were 3 spots water entered (where white paint was erased & residue ran down) the wheel well from the rear where the plate is.

Took the car to my Mechanic. This is a problem with Toyota spot welding. My mechanic removed the rubber lining. cleaned it. in the backwher it is spot welded, he used angle grider to shave a bit. Used auto sealer to fill the gap betwwen the metal sheets, put back the lining(the black lining. This was done a year ago.

I never had a water in the wheel well after this.

However, had problem of water uner the tool box in the trunk. When I did the krown rust protection, the guy misplaced the plug for this section. Therefore, it has the hole on the bottom, which drains the water.

well, after having the same problem with the door and the spare tire filling up with water I did some research on the web and found out to my ignorance that water actually goes through the window trim in all cars and that the only reason mine is filling, although I haven't tested that theory yet, gonna try it tomorrow, is that the drain holes are probably clogged.
So tomorrow, I will try to find and clean the drain holes and post my results.

My brother's 96 Avy did this... his rear passenger door had 7" of water in it!!

All we had to do was open the door and poke a screwdriver up in the drain holes on the bottom. They got clogged somehow.

We drilled a couple extras just in case too.

I will try these suggestions later. Hopefully, this cures my issues with my 98 Avalon. Water in trunk and rear driver's door.

Thank you for this thread.

Door Water

I face the leaky door toward the south in the winter and towards north in the summer.
This keeps most of the water out of the door. I think the wind direction makes the water problem worse' Looks like the rubber seal where the bottom of the window meets the door is the culprit.

Bwahahahahahah! I thought I was the only one with the door filling with water problem. I opened up my car to get something out and couldn't stop laughing when I heard sloshing around. I thought I just closed the door too hard and it was fuel sloshing haha

I've been having issues with my trunk filling with water, mainly from underneath the tool tray in my '96... odd my '84 Supra doesn't have these problems...
