Trunk leak?

I bought a '97 a few weeks ago, and am having soooo many problems with it.

One of them is a leak in the trunk during rainy weather. It collects in the left side (drivers) well. The sunroof drain hose is not blocked and it exits cleanly through the trunk, so I don't think thats it.

It may be coming around the large vent thats installed in the left side of the trunk. I would have no idea how to fix that. None of the carpet is wet, so I don't think its leaking anywhere high up.

I've read a lot about Camry's leaking around the tail lights, but I don't see how thats possible with my car. The tail light bolts on to the outside of the trunk.

Thanks for any help.

Read the threads about Avalon and Camry trunk leaks at the bottom of this page. The two cars are pretty much the same.

That was helpful, thanks. I did a search for 'trunk leak' but came up with tons of irrelevant results. I didn't even notice the Similar Threads links at the bottom of this page.

So I'm guessing it is the vent, not the seal, as I'm not finding any water on the carpet. Last time I looked at it I thought there was no way I'd be able to caulk around it, not enough room around the bottom of the vent. But I'll look at it again, and maybe take the bumper off and caulk from the outside if I have to.

I'm just trying to get this car into shape so I can sell it.

Thanks for the help.
