Acceleration

How many RPMs do you normally accelerate to with your avalon. I usually accelerate to the speed limit at 3000 RPM. Do you drive with ECT PWR on or off? Just curious to see what everyone else does.

When I first got my liscense, I had the pleasure of having an Avalon as my car. I always kept the ECT on and hit 5000-6000 RPM's under my normal acceleration...and put 35,000 miles on that car that way.

Once it became my mom's primary car, I told her to keep the ECT off (to save gas) and she rarely hits 3000 RPM's. When I get in it now, the ECT is usually off, but is sometimes on, as she will hit the button sometimes when merging into bad traffic.

With my driving, the car got 25 MPG combined...with hers its 32 (using premium...subtract 5-6MPG from those figures for regular unleaded)

Is accelerating that fast on a regular basis bad for the engine? And with ECT on its almost impossible to accelerate below 4000 RPMs.

why would toyota give us that many revs if we can't use it. why would any car company give us that many revs...i believe most engines are endurance tested at redline before they are produced.

i redline my avalon all the time, without ect. just pedal to the medal. i've had the car for 4 years, 60k miles put on since i've had it, no problems.

drive it how you want! as long as you maintain a car correctly, it should be perfectly fine.

Redlining can be hard on a car if done when it is cold.

Redlining a car when it is warm can be good, because it can clean some of the buildup off of the valves
