Speaker Quality?

the speakers in my son's 95 avalon seem very very questionable. The headunit is an aftermarket Alpine 9856 and when the volume is set past 6 or 7 (even with bass and treble at 0) the speakers start to crackle & distort. what could be causing this? are the speakers being overpowered?

any help would be great

the factory speakers are powered by a factory amplifier, so probably when you got your alpine installed, a amplifier integration harness was used. basically, you can't change the levels set into the factory amplifier, so it is very easy to distort the sound when using an aftermarket headunit.

solution is to cut out the factory amp all together and directly wire your speakers to the headunit. or get a new amp, cause it'll sound muchhhhhhhhhh better.

The signal is not getting clearly to the speakers, so its either the amp or the speakers. The stock speakers aren't known to be crystal clear so that doesn't help either. You can either as mentioned above bypass the amp and not use it by routing the wires directly to the speakers or by adding an aftermarket amp.

They should, its pretty simple. They might not do it if you don't buy from them but I have no idea so I would ask beforehand. Too bad your located in Chicago.
