system?

Is there any way a subwoofer and amp would hurt the ECU and electrical system in a 1995 Avalon?

Would think it depends on where the power was drawn. And/or if the amp some how was able to input a power surge or higher voltage into the ECU inputs.

If you took the power off the battery or a power source that ran through a fuse such as Cig/Radio think you are safe. Might post in the stereo section.

No way you can tap into the power of the cig for powering the amp. It is all connected directly from the battery due to its high current that is needed and only the battery can safely supply. To power the subs/amps you would need a power cable going from the battery to the amp (fused of course) as well as the remote power (usually from the headunit). It should not harm the ECM or electrical system unless its connected incorrectly. The ECM is fused also so that is added security.

Installing an aftermarket headunit is difficult in that, to do it properly, you need to run new wires and splice into the output wires of the factory amplifier.

Putting new speakers in the doors is easy, but only 4" ones will fit. Some good quality 4" speakers, and a sub in the trunk (all amplified) would sound pretty nice tho.

That will depend on the install. Those know know will have a better success rate and those who don't know will most likely mess up. Why even ask this question? I don't see how the answer can help or not help.

w203, I have put in a Pioneer 1300MP head unit with four 4" speakers in the doors. It doesn't sound too great but it is an upgrade from the stock system. I'm about to hook up two 10" subs and an amp in the trunk to make up for the lack of bass in the speakers.

Just so you know - this thread goes back about 4-years and w203 hasn't been around here since 2008.
