Gen1 Tranny Shifting Problems

Hello,

I've got a '99 XLS, with 100,500 on the clock. And I've recently had some problems crop up with the floor shifter. It is very hard to push and seems to stick. Does anyone else ever encounter this? Does anyone have any idea what it costs to fix??

2nd Generation

dirty or low fluid maybe?

i used have a similar problem...but i guess it's because of the way the anti-roll back function the trans provided when i put it in "park"

this is what i do now when i park my car:
1. put trans in neutral
2. leave handbrake on
3. release brake
4. shift to Parking
5. turn off the car...

and ya...bad habit goes away and no issue anymore...
(but i don't think this is your problem =P)

Your cable and/or the outer shift assy [I believe it's actually called the Neutral Start Switch] is probably rusted and siezing.
