how can I disable my alarm on 97 with only my factory spare key?

I've lost my key fob for my 97 Avalon. I have my factory plastic key with a chip in it and am wondering can I use this key without the alarm system going off? Will the chip in the key allow me to open the door without the alarm going off as it was set before I lost the fob? Can I just put the key in the accessory position and press the red button on the dash to deactivate the alarm? Can I drive the car with the little plastic key?

are you sure that your key has a chip in it? usually its a decent thickness to have a chip, and my 98 avy doesnt have a chip in any of the keys that came with it.

I could be wrong, but it seems to have some kind of metal thing in it maybe it's just some sort of reenforcement. I never used it before it came with the car new. I just don't want to have to deal with the alarm as it seems to go off when I open the trunk without disabling the alarm with the fob it so I'm thinking it might be the same with the door and ignition. Thanks for answering so soon.

You know what I'm talking about...It's a plastic key embeded in a plastic card that came with the car when it was new and it says "The Toyota Touch" on the front.

I think the plastic key is allow the dealer to cut you a new one if you loose the real key instead of replacing all of your lock cylenders. I'm not sure it is sturdy enough to turn the lock.

yea yea yea, defineatly first use that to get a new key cut

as far as the key fob goes, i have been looking for one myself for a long time for a decent price, but i know for $30 or a local locksmith said he could provide an aftermarket working key fob, but get a new key cut asap so that yours doesnt get damaged
