Can bad suspension cause bad gas mileage? I know that my suspesion needs to be replaced, just trying what the other causes could be for my horrible gas mileage
unless its realllllly bad, i'd be hard pressed to pinpoint it to that, it may be a part of it but you efforts are better suited elsewhere, such as maybe your tranny or your fuel filter may be clogged or heck even an oil change. i know how the gas mileage goes, its been driving me crazy for a while now too.

The suspension deals with mostly your handling and ride quality, even in the worst cases its effect on gas mileage is barely worth noting. If your car's handling is really bad then maybe it will increase fuel costs but I'd rather be concerned with safety instead, if that were the case.
Do your matinence like everyone else suggested, but I also was getting horrible gas mileage in my 98, its much better now that I started accelerating slower, like 2000-3000 RPM on main roads. It is still not great, but a lot better than before. Just out of curiousity how many miles are you getting out of a tank?
I calculated my gas mileage, and I'm averaging 24 mpg and that was mainly highway driving. When I think about it 24 mpg is not that bad, the problem may be with my gas gauge. Has anybody ever had a malfunctioning gas gague, and are they exspensive to repair?
24 is decent, that is better than i was getting not too long ago with mostly highway miles, i used gumout fuel system cleaner, big blue bottle, and that boosted my highway up to 26/27 for a longer trip. how many miles are on the car? if its a lot, i wouldnt expect it to be getting the same gas mileage at 150k as it did at 50k.
lol, I didnt expect to guess that close. Glad to hear that its still kicking at 148k, I have a measly 82k, lol. But like I said 24 isnt bad for the car, considering everything. the fuel system treatments helped my car, and I even think I got better gas mileage on premium, something like 2-3ish, so it was worth the extra few cents, an extra 20 miles or so per tank, so just throwing that out there.
Yeah, I started using premium about 4 months ago. I thought the premium gas would stop some hesitation that I experience when driving but it hasn't, so I am still trying to solve that problem as well.
Wish I could help out with the hesitation problem, but I havent experienced any hesitation, but then again I only have a little more than half the miles you do.
Yeah, I used some Chevron stuff. Cleaned things up a little I guess, but I also got a new drive belt so that helped I'm sure. It really depends how you drive, try not to accelerate over 3000 RPM's I know it is slow, but it helped me a lot. I am getting around 300 miles out of a tank all city driving. I have noticed even when it is really close to empty you still have a few gallons left. However, I strongly reccomend you fill the tank as soon as the gas light goes on at the latest.
Averaged 27.4 yesterday driving out a full tank of gas...mostly interstate with cruise at 77 MPH. I don't know if I ever got 27 out of my '00 i4 Camry on a trip like that. Also, we had 4 adults and a trunk full.
Suspension has little to none effect on gas mileage. As its been mentioned earlier that fuel filter, air filter, oil change, transmission fluid and quality of fue you get are the things that mater. Biggest thing that plays big role in fuel economy is how you drive.
On highway 27 mpg is not bad for Avalon you guys get. On last trip 430 miles long I got 42 mpg on my 2001 VW Golf TDI with cruise set at 75 mph couple times I even topped out went 115 mph.
